Interxion, a pan-European operator of Internet Exchange Centres, will establish a 140,000 square feet Web hosting facility in Dublin at a cost of about €50 million (£39 million).
Some 25 people will work at the Parkwest facility which will offer companies a range of consultancy, connectivity and Web hosting storage services.
Hosting centres are facilities which manage computer systems and Web servers that enable companies to establish Web sites and online e-commerce systems.
Interxion is one of several companies to announce a Dublin base following Government initiatives to promote the Republic as a hub for e-commerce and Web hosting. Figures obtained yesterday by The Irish Times show almost two million square feet of hosting space and 22 centres are completed or planned for later this year.
Facilities built by Worldport, City Reach, Esat X and Wolfe are already up and running, while a centre established by Metro Media Fibre networks, which will host the Microsoft.Net project, will go live in May.
Interxion's new facility will be ready to go live in April.
It chose to set up in Dublin because of its central location between Europe and the US, according to Mr Tom Cahill, managing director Interxion Ireland.
