TECHNOLOGY stocks continued their decisive rebound from January's sell off yesterday, steering the New York Stock Exchange ever higher in its record setting pace.

On Wall Street, the Dow Jones average of 30 industrial stocks gained 52.02 points to close at 5,459.61, as the widely watched barometer of blue chip companies soared to its ninth new high in the past 12 sessions.

Stocks also received encouragement from a successful (Treasury) bond auction. Advancing issues outnumbered those falling by about 13 to nine on the NYSE, with 1,408 up, 968 down and 750 unchanged.

Big Board volume totalled 465.92 million shares, up from 377.73 million in the previous session.

The NYSE's composite index rose 2.62 to 433.08. The Standard and Poor's 500 stock index rose 4.88 to 646.31.

The Nasdaq composite index rose 6.52 to 1,089.96.
