BRITISH Digital Broadcasting was yesterday awarded licences to introduce more than 15 new British television channels, despite concerns about BSkyB's dominant position.

The winning group - backed by Carlton and Granada, ITV's two largest companies - was forced by the Independent Television Commission to drop BSkyB as a shareholder. but it will still be allowed to supply three premium-priced sports and movie channels to BDB's network.
