COLOURTREND, Ireland’s oldest manufacturer of paints, primers and wood care products, is to open its fifth store at Main Street in Swords, Co Dublin, where it has acquired the former Halifax premises from Lloyds Banking Group.

The building extends to 185sq m (2,000sq ft) and has an adjoining yard off Main Street with an overall area of almost half an acre. The company’s other outlets are in Mullingar and Waterford as well as in Bath, Somerset.

Colourtrend’s products are also available through a nationwide network of more than 100 independent paint retailers. The acquisition of a new trading opportunity in Swords comes at a time when paint sales are faring well in Ireland, according to Liam Holland, head of sales and marketing at Colourtrend.

He says painting is still the most cost-effective way of upgrading a room or a house.

The company plans to mount an exceptional display of paint and wallpaper in the new Swords store which will have a skilled staff to offer advise to customers.

Colourtrend began manufacturing premium quality paint in Ireland in 1953 when the business was established by the present managing director’s father, Ronan O’Connor.

It is based in an old Famine workhouse dating back to 1841 in Celbridge, Co Kildare, where it employs 70 people.

Colourtrend introduced tinting systems to Ireland in the 1960s and became the first European paint manufacturer to produce a water-based paint using a pure acrylic resin.
