London high-rise plan by Mulryan

The Ballymore Group, run by Sean Mulryan, has lodged a planning application with the Tower Hamlets borough council in London to build two 50-storey residential blocks with 800 apartments and shops in east London.

The Arrowhead Quay development, which includes one 50-storey high-rise and another with 55 storeys, has been in gestation for nearly seven years, though it was delayed by the global financial crisis.

Since its inception, the plan has grown in size. The first planning permission gave clearance for a 26-storey and a 16-storey office development.

A sky garden 175 metres above ground filled with trees and shrubs will be open to all residents.

Ballymore abandoned the plans to build over 500,000 square feet of high-spec offices because of the lack of interest from customers, even though the site is in the heart of Canary Wharf on the Isle of Dogs.

Forty-two affordable homes are understood to be included in the project, although Ballymore’s subsidiary, Arrowhead Commercial, submitted this element of the plan to Tower Hamlets Council on a confidential basis.

A consultation period began last week and will run until February 18th.
