August 1996 Dublin investment adviser Mr Tony Taylor and his wife, Shirley, disappear around the same time that a small number of investors lodge complaints against him with the Irish Brokers' Association and the Central Bank.
August 23rd, 1996
Liquidator appointed to Taylor group of firms. An examination of the books leads to the conclusion that funds invested by 17 clients have been mismanaged.
Initial estimates of the amount of money missing range between £2 million and £4 million but documents lodged with the High Court state that clients' funds amounting to £1,550,610 are unaccounted for, and the company is insolvent to the amount of £155,618.
August 11th, 1999
Mr Taylor arrested in the UK. He had been living for some time in Eastbourne with his wife under an assumed name.
August 26th, 1999
Mr Taylor begins his appeal against extradition from Britain to face 15 fraud-related changes.
January 2000
Mr Taylor drops his action contesting his extradition.
January 28th, 2000
Mr Taylor appears in Dublin District Court on 15 fraud-related charges. Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick remands him in custody.
March 27th, 2000
Mr Taylor refused bail by the High Court. Gardaí oppose bail on the grounds that they believe Mr Taylor will abscond and not stand trial.
July 31st, 2000
The High Court refuses an application by Mr Taylor for the payout of part of £365,000, lodged into court following the sale of his Dublin home, in order to fund his defence.
August 23rd, 2000
Mr Taylor is remanded in continuing custody to allow submissions on the book of evidence against him on charges of fraud.
December 15th, 2000
The case is adjourned to January 12th, 2001, after Mr Taylor's English-based solicitors withdraw from his defence. Judge Elizabeth Dunne adjourns the case so that his new solicitors, Garrett Sheehan & Co, can take instructions in the case.
February 3rd, 2001
It is revealed that Mr Taylor will stand trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on October 2nd, 2001.
October 2nd, 2001
Mr Taylor pleads guilty to five charges and is jailed for five years.
May 2nd, 2003
Mr Taylor is released from prison.
