THE Cabinet has given formal approval to an IDA backed project which will create 1,000 jobs at Ringaskiddy in Cork Harbour. Andy another teleservices project being planned by a European company is under negotiation for Cork, which, could create another 300 to 400 jobs in the city.

Announcing the Seagate investment yesterday, the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Bruton, said that Seagate Technology - the world's largest producer of hard disk drives for the computer industry - would invest almost £150 million in a new plant at Ringaskiddy. It plans to create employment for 500 operatives as well as 500 technicians and graduates, mainly with engineering qualifications.

"It is especially significant that Seagate Technology has chosen Cork for its second major investment in the Republic. Winning Seagate for Ringaskiddy is a major advance for the area and is the result of IDA's commitment made two years ago to the community, that it would broaden the scope of industrial development there," Mr Bruton said.

The 1,000 acre Ringaskiddy industrial estate is the largest in the Republic and was developed at a cost of almost £100 million.
