GUINNESS Ireland, which invested £2 million in new technology to launch a bigger beer can, says it has boosted sales by 76 per cent.

The new can, which was launched last February was accompanied by a £2 million promotional campaign.

The company says the level of sales is well ahead of target and the bigger can has attracted new customers.

Guinness brand manager, Mr Donogh Lane, said figures for March represented the highest ever level of monthly sales for canned draught Guinness.

The new can contains the widget, which Guinness first launched in 1991.
