MR Alan Sugar, founder of Amstrad, the computer to mobile phones group, yesterday promised shareholders he would finally stem losses from its consumer electronics division.

Restructuring costs at the loss making division and costs associated with the failed merger proposal with Psion pushed Amstrad £14.9 million sterling into the red in the year to June 30th, compared with a £3.1 million profit in the previous financial year.
