ACS to create 100 jobs in Cork

One hundred jobs are to be created in an investment by US company Allied Computer Services (ACS).

The Fortune 500 firm is to open an outsourcing and support centre in Mahon on the outskirts of Cork city, supporting European markets. Recruitment of key staff, including systems engineers and administrators, is under way and the operation is expected to be functioning fully within three years.

The Tánaiste Ms Harney said ACS would broaden the range of expertise in Cork, potentially wooing other key technology corporations.

She said: "The company will add significantly to the business base in Cork and provide a range of career-enhancing opportunities for graduates in the information technology and business management sectors. It is a timely arrival in Cork and I am confident the company will attract the dynamic people it requires to this important new centre."

A leading player in the emerging business process outsourcing sector, ACS boasts an enviable client roster, including MetLife, Motorola and General Motors.

With market capitalisation of $6 billion (€5.1 billion), ACS generated revenues of $3.8 billion and profits of $491 million to the end of 2002. The company employs 40,000 worldwide, the bulk of whom are based in the US. Headquartered in Dallas, ACS has embarked on an aggressive global expansion strategy with growth in Europe a key target.

The Cork operation will be located at the National Software Centre in Mahon Business Park.
