JetBlue to launch daily flights from Dublin to New York and Boston next year

US airline JetBlue is set to launch daily non-stop transatlantic flights from Dublin to New York and Boston from March 2024.

This will put the low fares airline in competition with Aer Lingus and a number of other American carriers, including United and Delta.

JetBlue will use an Airbus A321 Neo on the routes, with 16 seats in business class (branded as Mint) and 144 in economy (which it brands as core seats). It will operate out of Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport, giving it access to the US Customs and Border Protection facility, which means passengers do not have to go through immigration checks when they land in the US.

Beginning on March 13th next, it will fly in to New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport (departing Dublin at 11.45am) and Boston Logan International Airport (departing Dublin at 11.30am).

The flights will run until September 30th and introductory fares will start at €399 for economy seats and €1,499 for business class, the airline said.

Robin Hayes, JetBlue’s chief executive said Dublin was an “exciting new destination” for the airline. “We have long recognised the strategic importance of Ireland and its strong value proposition as an attractive country to visit and do business in. We realise value and choice is just as important in the Irish market as in the US and are pleased to introduce our award-winning product to Irish customers.”

Vincent Harrison, Dublin Airport’s chief commercial and development officer, said: “We welcome JetBlue’s decision to launch two new transatlantic services from Dublin Airport. These new daily services to Boston and New York will offer additional choice and convenience for passengers on both sides of the Atlantic, supporting the tourism and trade links between the US and Ireland.”

Headquartered in Long Island City in New York, JetBlue already operates flights from New York to London, Amsterdam, and Paris, and from Boston to London and Amsterdam, with Paris to be added next year.

The airline has announced on Wednesday that it will fly from Edinburgh to New York JFK from May 2024.

Passengers here will hope that JetBlue’s flights to and from Ireland will promote competition in terms of fare prices on transatlantic routes.

When announcing the launch of flights to Amsterdam earlier this year, JetBlue noted that “entrenched legacy carriers have dominated this route for decades” and that it planned to disrupt the market.
