Tokyo calling all musicians, DJs and producers…
Applications are now open for the next Red Bull Music Academy to be held in the Japanese capital later in 2014
For music-makers, beat-makers and their ilk, the Red Bull Music Academy is a two week experience like no other. A music lab, festival and workshop rolled into one, the RBMA brings together musicians from all over the world for a fortnight to explore what they do and the sounds they make from every angle. There are guest lecturers (such as Brian Eno and James Murphy – both guest lectures from 2013 are below), studio sessions, club nights, gigs, screenings, exhibitions and much more across the host city. Here’s my take on last year’s RBMA’s tenure in New York
This year, the RBMA heads to Tokyo from October 12 to November 14 and applications are now being accepted up to March 18 from would-be attendees. More information on the Academy, the application process and the rather unique application form are here).
A screening of What Difference Does It Make? A Film About Making Music by director Ralf Schmerberg, shot at the 2013 Red Bull Music Academy in New York, will be held at Dublin’s Sugar Club on February 17. Admission is free but you must apply for tickets in advance by completing this form.
