Consider us smitten with the Toronto-born, London-based Al Spx after her appearance on Later… With Jools Holland last week. Debut single “Holland” is a wonderful slam-dunk of folky noir-soul, but “Old Stepstone” is the real showcase for her spectacular voice. Her forthcoming Rob Ellis-produced debut album promises to be quite a treat.
Headturning wobbly, superfried electronica from Belfast producer David Baxter, formerly known as Filaria and one-half of Kinnego Flux. Baxter has a debut album ready to drop on the Airflex Labs label and has previously collaborated with Boxcutter.
Wicklow’s Ross O’Sullivan is already a class act in the production stakes with a winning ability to flip between thumping, turbo-charged grooves like “Boy Racer” or cerebral headnodders like his Fitz & The Tantrums and Nas remixes. He’s now hooked up with Belfast’s Melted Music, home to SertOne.
