OTR understands that Prince will be playing Malahide Castle in Dublin on July 30 as part of a lengthy European tour. We assume that this is the gig which Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell was refering to in his tweet yesterday – OTR reader James D mentioned a Prince show in Dublin on July 30 last week, so thanks to the tweeting TD for letting us know the venue.

Prince was last due to play in Ireland in June 2008, but we all know how that infamous show-that-never-was at Croke Park turned out in the end. We hope that Dinny the cat will still be chilled when Prince turns up to play in July.

UPDATE: per report in today’s paper, tickets for this Greatest Hits show go on sale on Friday from €89.50 a pop. It will be Prince’s first Irish show since he played the Point in 2002 (which was an amazing show). Unlike Prince’s previous Irish shows, which were promoted by MCD, the promoters for the 35,000 capacity Malahide Castle shindig are POD Concerts. And unlike that Croker gig, this show is part of a fairly lengthy European tour.
