    Sweet baby moses! What a line-up! What a line-up?

While I never expected there to be any major revelations at this late stage, those additions (bar the delectable Ms Feeney & Dinosaur Jr) are actually a little offensive.

I expect Ticketmaster has already hired additional staff to handle the surge of interest in tickets on the back of this announcement…

Niall - just saw that but, as you say, a little late now. I’d been told by the promoters that the info would go out on Thursday morning hence my first post. Then, the press release was issued with no embargo on it so away we go. It was probably easier to recall press releases before blogs, forums and Twitter but you can’t turn the clock back to those days.

i wasn’t expecting any major additions and, well there isn’t any here. Dinosaur JR, Dan Deacon, Major Lazer and Neko Case nice to have but not a cause for major excitement.

Agree Dan Deacon is playing tooo many gigs in Ireland.

Julie Feeney very welcome addition but she broke that news on My Space a while back.

I imagine that there’s plenty of people from down the country who couldn’t make it up to the capital on a Wednesday/Thursday night for a late night gig last month who are delighted to see his name added to the bill.

Own gig followed by festival appearance whilst touring a brand new record seems pretty reasonable to me and while he’s selling more tickets for each subsequent visit here I don’t think it’s accurate to say that he’s playing “way too many gigs” as the market for him obviously hasn’t been satisfied.

yes, dan deacon and his crew told me last time they were in alt they were coming back at the end of august/beginning of september.
dan obviously loves the irish audience (i.e i was reading on a blog -maybe this one- about his gig at primavera where he asked how many irish were in the audience!)

Can someone explain to me the critical rehabilitation of Kid Creole And The Coconuts? Last time I looked (in the 80s) he was a poxy feather-lite pop act that turned up occasionally on Top Of The Pops prancing amongst the balloons while some god-awful yuppie ‘latin’ disco track played in the background.

Did I miss the prog-jazz-fusion album or something?

You could put all of those terrible additions into a small tent on the edge of any festival site and very few would even know, nor care, if they were playing. If EP were trying to tempt casual, undecided punters with this lot then they’ve failed miserably. No wonder POD Concerts have gone/are going pont.

I’ve had a chance to sleep on it and I’ve come to the conclusion that this is the WORST EP line up so far.

I’ve been at every on bar the first and It’s always been great, so much that I bought my ticket early bird for this year - to be honest, I’m regretting i did.

Whoever is programming this year has a particularly skewed taste at the expense of variety.

The great thing about EP in the past was that there was always something for everyone - this year not so.
There’s a lot of indie boy stuff (great if you’re an indie boy) but not a whole lot else, a least, not enough to justify the ticket price.

    Bummed.

Won’t be making the same mistake next year.

Neko Case was mesmerising when i saw her (in Whelan’s I think), she did a lovely version of Buckets of Rain, but I have to admit I’d rather see her in a bar, even a dive with no mic and a chorus of drunks, rather than a tent in daylight. I thought that was Senor Coconut on the list for just a minute…

This lineup feels weak. Think I’ll go see one of the Ring cycle operas in Covent Garden instead.

I see we’re at the doldrums stage of the Annual EP Cycle.

    It goes:

Nostalia for last year’s festival > anticipation for this year’s festival > fever pitch excitement ahead of first announcement > expression of disappointment at first line up and discussion as to how it’s been in steady decline since 2 years ago (regardless of what year it currently is) > doldrums at newer batches of announcements and proclamations of ‘never again’ > pre-festival ‘well everyone else is going and I have nothing else on’ > festival > post festival raving about the ‘vibe’ and how refreshing it was to go to a festival where people didn’t wear sports jerseys > rave reviews of festival > time passes, then we are back at the first phase.

I’m not thrilled at the line up, but I really cant wait to go. There are so many acts I dont know but am reading recommendations of that there’ll be plenty to keep me occupied. And while it is a pricey ticket, I’d be astonished if it will be the same price or higher next year.

Joe - you got it in one. From an OTR pov, it’s amazing how ANY mention of the Electric Picnic gets traffic going like crazy here. Whether people are fuming or raving, they do have an opinion on the EP - whether this turns into people buying tickets this year remains to be seen.

Dan Deacon loves playing in ireland - we’re an easy crowd to bend to an artists will, we’ll do anything. He told me afterwards that it’s his favourite place to play after his home city and chicago. Was surprised about chicago, i’ve been to gigs there and the crowd were predominantly self conscious and tame.
