    State give it all away

    Jim Carroll

It has been a year of ups and downs for new Irish music magazine State .

Following six outings on the nation’s newstands, the magazine is now joining such titles as Analogue, Connected and Totally Dublin in the free-of-charge zone.

The latest issue of the magazine will be available nationwide from today. Readers can also subscribe for the price of a stamp and envelope or read a digital issue of the mag online.

Issue number seven features interviews with Kings Of Leon, Fight Like Apes, The Blizzards and more

Was there a down? I must have missed it … Hope you are well Jim.

    • Jim Carroll says:

Roger – I’d call the Abba cover a down, dude.

    • Brett says:

Wow, the State thought police are touchy this morning. You’d think they would have better things to do.

    • Roger says:

Nice one :) the sales figures aren’t in on that one yet so you might be right …!

    • Roger says:

Sorry Brett, just reading the news and saying hello to Jim ;)

The temptation to say that was your Waterloo is too much to resist on the first day back…..

    • Roger says:

LOL. Okay man, have a nice day. I’m heading off before the keyboard warriors descend on me for popping my head above the trenches … keep on trucking!

    • Karl says:

This being free makes me about 900% more likely to pick it up. Might’ve been nice to have FLApes on the cover instead of Kings of Leon, but I still look forward to this addition to my free city-centre bathroom reading.

    • Dave says:

I’ve only seen the internet copy so far, but it looks great. It seems to be focused much more on Irish music now, which I feel is a good direction to move in.

Interesting comment Dave. I think there’s probably more Irish content this month because there’s more Irish releases at the moment. I always thought State had a good mix of Irish and international content.

    • Dave says:

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted, but even the reviews section is a little more Irish this time around.

You hit the nail on the head there Jim. There I was saying it was a pretty rubbish year for Irish music and then September happened and it looks a whole lot better!

    • garethh says:

where is it available from ?

    • Niall says:

      Gareth,

This is the list we are working on. More places to be added this week.

It’s a pity they weren’t making money, but it’s no surprise – it’s nigh on impossible to launch a successful new music magazine in Ireland, we have so much access to free content online or otherwise, it has to be very special for people to fork out actual cash for it.
      Maybe we’re just spoiled….
That said, I’m far more likely to pick up State now – I did like it, but in these recession times every last penny counts…
