Excellent. Though I will miss the feeling of disappointment that I only managed to stay awake for half your show….again. Will have to go find something else to make me feel old.

Saturday night spot on radio is horrid. It always seems like there is 3 or 4 top notch DJs trying to gain listeners. Somehow Russell Brand seems to always win out in my household…

Glad to hear that they’ve given ya a more feasible time. Should be able to assist you with your listenership in future…

In totally unrelated news, there seems to have been zero coverage for the fact that The Specials reformed at Bestival on saturday. I thought the music press would have been all over this one?!?

You cheeky arse Jim! He he. Of course I’ve heard of them. I’d be lost without me googles when I go swimming.

I’d seen the two or three lines that the english rags had put to coverage but I would have imagined it might have gotten a little more. BBC, NME and those sites are normally a bit more keen to cover festivals in their minute detail….

There I was driving back from the Sweeney’s house when The Clapping Song came on the wireless. I LOVED that song as a kid, so thank you for the nostalgia fix. I had just discovered Abe Vigoda that very afternoon and am liking them a lot.

And you were wasted in that Saturday night slot. Obviously in the “criminally under-used” sense of the word and not the messy, boozy way. Best of luck with the Thursday gig.

Peter 81/Liz/Sinead – thank u all for the nice comments. It’s gonna be great to have my weekends back! I’ve missed so many shows this summer because of work and being away.

Ally – The new album is smashing in the extreme. They’re playing Irish dates in November – Whelan’s, Dublin on the 19th and Roisin Dubh, Galway on the 20th

Great news Jim, more accessible for our house listening, little’ un usually in bed by that time.

Looking forward to Skream this Friday. Curious about what an “introduction to dubstep” involves. Will we be taught some new dubaholic moves and grooves? Will there be slides?

@3 – “In totally unrelated news, there seems to have been zero coverage for the fact that The Specials reformed at Bestival on saturday.”

With everyone from the 70’s and 80’s reforming, its not really news anymore. Is it?

paub – I must get around to playing child-friendly music. They are the future, after all. As for an introduction to dubstep, I believe they have hired screens for a PowerPoint presentation

Ally – the one and only.

Peter81 – we covered that news ages ago here – http://www.irishtimes.com/blogs/ontherecord/2008/04/04/back-to-work/

Ian – Gets better and better with every listen

Richie – I’m stepping into big shoes!

    LeCatch – Thanking u. See u Thursday

Ivor – “Halfway Home” is currently rocking my world

Agreed, I must have listened to it about 5-6 times over the course of Saturday and Sunday so I’m taking a little break thus far today to give a go to the latest Mt. Eeerie (very good) and Blitzen Trapper (meh) album.

Any idea about a TVOTR tour? They’re in England this month. They’ve only played one Irish gig to date as far as I can tell.

And they really loved that one. They played at Oxegen one year with no advance notice whatsoever to about half-a-dozen bemused punters. They need a new booking agent.

    Jim
You have probably been asked before but maybe you have some detail. I am wondering why the likes of Phantom cannot have a “play it again” function on their web site that allows one to listen to a music show (not just a chat show), via streaming, after it has been aired i.e. not live. The Beeb seem to have it nailed in that you can listen to all music shows after the fact. Since you are streaming you are not actually downloading, as is the case with a podcast, hence why licensing should not be an issue?
Are there added legal issues to going down this route in Ireland? If not maybe some influence can be exerted on the powers that be within Phantom so that no one ever has to miss your show again if they go out on a Saturday night or now as you compete with the “Off the Ball” crew on a Thursday !!

Patrick – this has come up again and again and again on this blog. Yep, sure where else would I have got my t-shirt that says “Me and this little ducky *heart* TVOTR”? It’s awesome, it’s got a duck on it.

Gig was a bit of a let down, it was alright but the sound levels were too low.
