Tom Waits, Dublin, July 30, 31 & August 1
Jim Carroll
As predicted by On The Record a couple of weeks ago (and subsequently “borrowed” by other news sources who still managed to get the number of nights wrong), Tom Waits plays three shows in Dublin this summer. These will be in an all-seated marquee in the Phoenix Park (to be called The Ratcellar). Tickets will be €116.25 and €131.25 and will go on sale on Tuesday next at 9am

Padraig has a confidence the rest of us lack..
wooooo hooooooooo!!!!!! got tickets, Block A, row Y- row Y doesn’t sound very promising, Wish there was a seating chart so could have an idea, am on flat seating as opposed to tiered seating- that good or bad?!! Actually, who cares, am going to see Tom Waits, ahhh!!!! Got tickets for the Wed night, they sold out in 8 minutes I think, my brother somehow managed to get tickets for the Friday night- sold out in 3 mins apparently! I’m delirious!!!
Say it with me….. Peskajhmba :

Mendacious,
Betray,
Advantage taking
Also managed to get two tickets for Wednesday at around 9.08 this morning, but friend got two also for Wednesday around 9.40. Still no seating plan. Tickets are for block A, row AA – they’d better be marked clearly and for that price, I’m expecting a shoot-to-kill policy re sitting in the wrong seats on the night. Is it too much to ask that everyone get there early on the night? Massively expensive night but bringing friend who would dump her husband and two kiddies in a heartbeat to go and live in a cave with Tom Waits (don’t ask) so result all around. Hope everyone who tried was as successful.
Graham,
Was the reason it took you so long to post that was that you were scrambling for an “m” word?
AWWW YEAH!
got my ticket for the first night! Block A, Row H Seat 66!!!
It was pricey, but id spend it on a night of Tom Waits then on two over priced nights out in Dublin!!!
There is a seating chart shown on the TM.IE site
This link should get you there http://www.ticketmaster.ie/seatingchart/198461/11986
Does anyone have information on whereabouts in the park they are going to pitch this tent?
It will be a bit of a help for us out-of-towners trying to arrange hotels etc
And the seating chart would seem to suggest that there are 6038 tickets per show, so whoever mailed Jarlath@151 with 3500 was either telling porkies or , well, there is no or.
so 130 euro to see tom waits and lets not forget some of the finest musicians on the planet who must also be paid or maybe they just play free.worth every cent.
Jarlath (159) – if it’s in the same location in the Park at the Arcade Fire marquee last year, there’s buses to and from the venue with Dublin Bus from Eden Quay. Think it was €5 or €8 return which was a bargain considering the lack of headaches you then had re transport, the fleet of buses (plentiful) and the speed it got people to and from the place (given priority by the Gardai on traffic duty on the roads in and around the Park). A little trek when you got there (up near the Phoenix Monument if I remember correctly – was too busy admiring the stars in the sky myself) but sure, wasn’t it a little bit of exercise for us all?!
The clammy air inside the tent was another thing….
Colette(162) thanks for that info. I have also asked Aiken Promotions if they can confirm where it will be
Elbow(160) I did not check the seating plan that closely myself. I was originally told the capacity was going to be 4500, then Aiken told me 3500 which seems more realistic if it is the same 6000 standing capacity tent which some of you seem to think it is. We will just have to count them when we get inside.
YEAH! Got me a ticket, row B, center… I think that is worth the money, including a flight from Frankfurt, a stay at the hostel and some of the finest Irish beer!
Good on ya Abula, money’s paid now, we can forget about the fact it’s a rip off, hope to see you there. Anyone got clear directions to venue. Is the park safe to wander in, or will you be eaten by red deer and junkies. Mr Carroll, would love directions. please?
Jesus, I know the I. Times has a very well heeled readership, but this is ridiculous! I saw him the last time 21 years ago , but even after that much time it still is not worth it. I say fuck the greedy bastards!
I know I’m a bit late in joining this debate, but I was discussing it with a friend last night who informed me that while it is the artist who dictates the price, the reason they’re so expensive is down to the Irish Rip Off Personal and Public Liability Insurance costs. 15 or 20 quid of the Big Ticket prices is insurance and that the costs in Ireland are 12 to 15 times dearer than elsewhere. I love Tom, as does my partner. We saw him in Berlin and it was the first concert to cross the 100 Deutschmark (€50!!!) mark. Even back then we deliberated before buying. (interestingly enough, the next Berlin concert to cross the 100DM mark was U2 the folllowing year.) We have children and there’s no way we could afford to fork out nearly 300 squids for a gig.
Not sure if anyone is still reading this since the last post is 4 days old. But I was hoping someone could tell me why according to ticketmaster 2 gigs are currently not on sale? Does this simply mean they are sold out, or will there still be tickets available at a later stage?
Thijs – all three shows are sold out
He really is the man of the people
Just recieved the following information from Aiken Promotions….
The Ratcellar will be located next to the visitors centre in the Phoenix Park , we will be putting a map of the area on our web-site shortly for reference. http://www.aikenpromotions.com
