    Morrissey, Co Wicklow, June 28

    Jim Carroll

On The Record understands that Morrissey will play a second Irish show this summer and the venue is likely to be Luggala Estate, Co Wicklow on June 28.

    • Major Alfonso says:

Well this is certainly a surprise, in light of Garech’s campaign against the interpretive centre. Then again he’s always supported music, though I wouldn’t have thought he’d necessarily be a Moz fan. Luggala is absolutely beautiful, but as a site it’s a right pain in the hole getting in and out of. The driveway down to the lodge is a long single road and getting there is hard enough in the first place. And what all the pheasant will think I don’t know, never mind the deer. In fact it’s a wonder this gets licensed at all.
Pack a good picnic is my advice, Lugalla on a sunny day is heaven.

    • petee says:

woo hoo great news that morrissey is coming to my garden of ireland

    • Lauren says:

Great stuff! Where the hell is Luggala?!

Either way, I’ll be there. Providing I can goad someone with a car into bringing me.

    • MikeB says:

Well at least a bit easier to get to than Cork on a Thursday evening..

    • Major Alfonso says:

      Luggalla on google maps

It’s a private estate owned by one of the Guinnesses, we used to visit when I was young. It’s basically a private valley in the middle of Wicklow with a gothic hunting lodge. You’ve probably seen it a thousand times on telly, it’s the backdrop for a lot of ads, including the one where the hurlers played on the lake, and it’s been used by RTÉ too. It’s basically beneath the Sally Gap, a couple of miles from Roundwood.

    • Colm says:

      A hunting lodge?

I think that’s thrown a spanner in the works. Moz is a staunch vegetarian/animal rights activists and has canceled concerts in venues such as a former abbatoir in Germany.

    • john says:

Come on Moz I cant make Cork.
I would love this gig to happen but i fear it wont

john – i’m not in the business of making up stuff to put on the blog so you can take it from me that the gig is on. Or else one of my sources will be sleeping with the fishes by the end of the week.

    • Brendan says:

      Jim,
Would you know if the New York Dolls are going to support – as in Cork?
      Brendan

    • Jim Carroll says:

brendan – haven’t a clue, apparently all will be revealed on Friday.

    • PSillery says:

Its such a scenic area and so hard to get to with little or no infrastructure in the surrounding areas I find it hard to believe.

I hope its true but I imagine if it does happen it would be a small intimate affair. The only hotels close to it in reality are Glandalough Hotel and Lynhams in Laragh.

      Could this be really true????

      I’m not convinced……

    • petee says:

dublin bus or bus eireann will run buses same as EP or garden party. that will be no problem

    • dee dee larsen says:

      God! want to be there,
how do i get a ticket??!!

    • PSillery says:

Any update on this story? Its Friday!!!!!

    • Jim Carroll says:

At 10am???? This is the live music business dude, they dont start doing stuff until at least noon

    • PSillery says:

Just got a txt msg from a mate.

“A Day in the lLife Festival, Luggala Estate, Wicklow, 28th of June. Moz headlining”

      I need verification!!!!

      When are tkts on sale?

      Oh God WHEN!!!!?????

    • john says:

Thanks Jim How could we even doubt you?

    • I wonder if there’s enough Morrissey fans in the country to justify the bollocks playing two dates here?

I doubt if POD will be sending out an internal search party to unearth some “best production seats” for this one…

    • CP says:

Oh bloody Brilliant! One of the most beautiful spots in the country wrecked by hoards of thirty and forty somethings! THis is a sensitive landscape and would not be up to those kind of pressures? What is De Briun Thinking?

    • Major Alfonso says:

I doubt it’ll be wrecked, it’s a managed estate. The site for the gig is a big pasture that’s mostly used as grazing for sheep and deer and there’s plenty of space down on the valley floor. I am a little surprised it’s being called A Day in the Life. The lyrics of that song refer to Tara Browne’s car crash. There’s a memorial to him in Lugalla, he was Garech’s younger brother.

    • Tweef says:

Disgusting that Luggala should be abused in this way. It is a stunning spot & the the wildlife should not be contaminated by an event like this.

    • john says:

I have spoken to the promoters and Morrissey will NOT be performing at the festival FACT. Although he was offered the gig

    • Rachael says:

Seems as though this event couldn’t get Moz….whats the story Jim??? The update on the blog regarding tix etc has disappeared…..has this all been smoke and mirrors?

    • Colm says:

      hunting lodge, anyone?

    • Jim Carroll says:

Good to see our German readers have a sense of humour.

    • Jamma says:

This is open for comments again – Jim, is the vibe now that this show will be taking place?

    • Jim Carroll says:

Jamma – that would be the vibe alright, per a few sources I spoke to earlier today.

The issue seems to be about billing (ie is this going to be a standalone show or a festival).

I’m leaving the post open for now and will update it when I have more definite info. Sorry about all the confusion but the show was definitely on when the post was posted.

…iiinteresting! Thanks for that, Jim! Hopefully we will hear confirmation one way or the other soon enough.
