“more like will 10,000 people really PAY to see Ian Brown?” yeah, blagville Tennessee.
It’s amazing the number of people who got/are getting free tickets to festivals and gigs this summer just because of poor sales. I didn’t meet one person at Garden Party who paid for their ticket, seemingly Castlepalooza was the same. Promoters spend all this money on a festival and then give the tickets away! Good for the punters, I guess, but not exactly sustainable.
hmm, I guess I’m the last sucker who pays for his gigs then
I went to see Ian Brown last year in Dublin Castle; it was a bit grim. Weather was awful, bucketing down throughout, and according to one of my mates, a guy near her peed where he was — right in the middle of the crowd — rather than bother queueing for the portaloo. nice!
A friend of mine roadied for Ian Brown on a recent UK Tour. Apparently the bit where he gives loads to the monitor engineer has become, like, part of the show. It’s his own twisted way of apologising to the crowd for his tone-deaf singing voice. It’s practically down on the setlist…
…9. My Star
10. FEAR
11. “Pretend you can’t hear your monitors and threaten to sack the engineer”
12. Love Like a Fountain
etc….
They really are scraping the barrel, considering he can’t even sing his way out of one!
He’s not even a festival act anymore is he? Maybe at Witnness a few years ago, but not now. Even at Hi-Fi – another festival populated by non-payers Una – there wasn’t even three thousand up the front to see him, ahem, ‘rock the main stage’.
No doubt joining the Thrills on the bill will be Republic of Loose and The Blizzards.
I saw Ian Brown a few years ago – never again. He left after what looked like a pre-arranged dispute with a member of his band. It was suspicious and basically a cynical move by him to finish up what was a lacklustre gig.
Wow and I though i could be catty and cutting? Where’s the love, people, where’s the love?
No, I dont see Ian Brown pulling 10k punters either on his own so why not make this – and I’ll be invoicing the promoters for this idea – the Biggest Freshers Ball In The World…Ever!
You guys cannot be serious, Brown is massive in Ireland and every performance in Ireland (apart from the ambassador) has been top drawer. Was also at Dublin castle, and the audience wanted him to keep playing. Was at the Kaiser Cheifs the night after and it was nowhere near the Brown atmosphere..
It’ll be grand if he plays his few good songs and then packs some Roses songs into the set. He would need a bigger band to headline it with him though, he doesn’t sell well enough here. Unless people would travel from the UK.
Where are you people getting this rubbish from? Last year he sold out 4 nights in a row at the Ambassador, thats what.. 2000 people a night, then he sold out Dublin Castle again in April which is massive itself, he’ll easily fit a headline slot at this.
Ian Brown is a legend, even if his voice can be a bit off on stage, he’s a great front man & his legacy alone is worth the entrance fee ..where do all the saps on this forum come from?? ‘oh, Ian Brown is soooo yesterday’ ..get a grip
Could all the anodyne Coldplay fans get off this forum and go back to reading Maeve Binchy novels. Ian Brown is a musical legend. Everybody thought after the split that he would wilt but after 4 excellent and original solo albums the king is alive and well. Adore me.
Oh my god. What are some of ye talking about. “No revs on the bill…..Maybe if the thrills play it’ll be worth seeing”. Has everyone taken leave of their sences. The revs are barely even a band, and who could care less about the thrills. The stone roses were a leathal band, and ian brown has expanded that sound into his solo work. Absolutely fantastic is what he is. I think some of you folk need lessons in good taste.
Ian Brown’s earlier stuff is great. Last time I saw him live was in the Ambassador and he was dreadful. Worked out at 50Euro per ticket which was ridiculous considering his voice which he subsequently blamed on the Mike!
This will be my fourth time seeing Ian Brown. The first gig was in the olympia and i don’t think i’ve ever enjoyed a show as much, he was excelent and James Lavelle came out and played for the last part. The ambassador wasn’t great but at Dublin castle, in the torrential rain, i was blown away again. The Thrills, don’t make me laugh. They’re not fit to be on the same bill.
Im a huge Ian brown Fan, wondering does he play much of the roses material on this tour, any one any ideas? any so called fans slationg him are just a joke!
I cannot believe the audacity and blatent ignorance of these obvious student “we know what’s cool” types above. Take my advice and keep your lack of taste and complete ignorance to brilliance to yourself until your cheap beer and crap music college days are over and you look deeper into music and discover that Ian Brown is infact one of the cleverest people to enter the music business ever. His lyrics are ingenius and his melodies and harmonies are sencond to none. i’ve been to see Him on many ocasions including Dublin Castle, Hi:Fi, the Ambassador and Glen Eagles in Kerry and everytime I’ve come away with a sense of pride at having being in the presence of a living legend. So when you’ve gotten the hype of the pop culture bands such as the Thrills and the Blizzard (who were better doing cover versions in the Stables in Mullingar) and found some taste in music feel free listen to ian Browns work and appreciate it like you should!
Was at Ian Brown last night, again a 10 out of 10 performance, he’s good he’s great is Golden Great. The crowd really liked it and its not a cliche but I dont think he wanted to leave the stage. The World is your against Fool Gold was brilliant. The songs on the new album didnt give the punch like any other song from the other albums or some roses Songs. ps anyone else think that the new albums is not great ?? Hopefully its just one bad album and there’s better to come. Mail me let me kow what ye thought of the gig and the new album.
Ian Brown is an absolute legend. Flew from France to catch the gig in the Phoenix Park last night, well worth it. It was amazing. He seemed to enjoy it too. I’ve seen him nearly 10 times now, and yes, there has been some really dodgy performances {walk offs), but he has been amazing the majority of the times I”ve seen him, last night was one of the best. Huge crowd, great venue, living legend!
The best Ian Brown gig ive been to EVER , although Dublin Castle was a close runner up despite the rain , Red box , olympia and ambassador hadnt a patch. Despite my concerns with new album , Ian Succeeded to captivate his audience. He is a super artist one of the best around and anyone who reckons the thrills out class him just have no taste in music , and the Revs….ha I laugh. Sunday night will be remembered as one of the best ever gigs ive been to.EVER. Long live IANO…
dont know what all youse muppets r goin on about, iano is one cool motherf*****R. have seen him several times and he has always been legendary. dublin castle was defo my fave, even the rain couldnt dampen my spirits.
will 10,000 people really go to see Ian Brown?
more like will 10,000 people really PAY to see Ian Brown? Maybe, if The Thrills are supporting……

Anyway, that’s completely off topic…

Jaysus, they’re scraping the barrel with that one.

He’s supporting someone methinks. Brown himself won’t be the ‘main act’. Who could it be…?
i really like ian brown but i can’t really see 10000 people going to see him.. i’d imagine dj mek will be on stage at some point:D
Wow and I though i could be catty and cutting? Where’s the love, people, where’s the love?

I think the capacity is 5000.

The capacity is 8,000
I like Ian Brown, but any time I’ve seen him he has sucked. Dude can’t sing live at ALL.
i hear that the Stone Roses Experience have been added to the bill
It’ll be grand if he plays his few good songs and then packs some Roses songs into the set. He would need a bigger band to headline it with him though, he doesn’t sell well enough here. Unless people would travel from the UK.
from mcd.ie
His date at The Big Top has a limited capacity of 5,000 and follows his sell out open air show at Dublin Castle last year.
ian Brown is a total ledge…a musical genius…i cant wait to see him!!

It was an amazing gig, his voice was perfect. He’s the man.
Unbelievable atmosphere, brought back the stone roses days, this man is not finished
Anyone who says that that was a good gig is a frickin mong.
It was turgid.
I was at his gigg on sunday night…and he was capivating…the man is a ledge, coolness personified! it was aaaamazing!!
