  • Why is Premium Content being removed?
    Since Premium Content was introduced in 2002, the online landscape has developed considerably and online advertising has seen consistent growth in recent years. Removing Premium Content will allow irishtimes.com to broaden its appeal to new audiences and to be more accessible to all readers.

    While the subscription model met expectations and at the time provided a means for the website to be financially feasible, the future business model for irishtimes.com will be based on advertising rather than on subscription revenue.
  • I am a subscriber to Premium Content. What will the removal of the subscription mean for me?
    The Irish Times articles and news content for the past year will be free to access on www.irishtimes.com from Monday, 30th June.

    Premium Content subscribers will be provided with complimentary access to The Irish Times Archive and Crossword Club for the remainder of the subscription period.

    The Irish Times Archive will provide access to the full archive of articles dating back to 1859, and will be accessible at www.irishtimes.com/search/archive.html The Crossword Club consists of the daily Simplex and Crosaire crosswords and Irish Times crosswords for the past 10 years. The Crossword Club can be accessed at www.irishtimes.com/games/crosswords/ To log into either service, you will be able to use your Premium Content login details.

    As an alternative to the archive and crossword subscriptions, you will be able to request a refund for the unused portion of your Premium Content subscription during the month of August. Requesting a refund will deactivate your access to The Irish Times Archive and Crossword Clubs.
  • I am a corporate subscriber to Premium Content. What will the removal of the subscription mean for me?
    The Irish Times articles and news content for the past year will be free to access on www.irishtimes.com from Monday, 30th June.

    A pro-rata refund for the unused portion of your Premium Content subscription will be processed automatically and your organisation's representative will be contacted.

  • I am a subscriber to Premium Content Plus. What will the removal of Premium Content mean for me?
    The Irish Times articles and news content for the past year will be free to access on www.irishtimes.com from Monday, 30th June.

    As a Premium Content Plus subscriber, you will be automatically registered to The Irish Times Archive service for the remainder of your subscription term and you will continue to have access to the full article archive back to 1859.

    Premium Content Plus subscribers will also have automatic access to The Irish Times Crossword Club for the subscription term. The Crossword Club consists of the daily Simplex and Crosaire crosswords and Irish Times crosswords for the past 10 years.
  • I am not a subscriber. What will the removal of Premium Content mean to me?
    Article and news content from the past year, that was previously under the Premium Content subscription, will be free to access on www.irishtimes.com from Monday, 30th June.
  • How do I request a refund for the remainder of my Premium Content payment?
    In August you will be able to request a refund by completing a refund request form in the 'my account' area at: scripts.ireland.com/user/ Refund requests will be accepted during August and will be processed prior to 15th September 2008.
    Please note that requesting a refund will deactivate your access to The Irish Times Archive and Crossword Club.
  • How will refunds be calculated?
    Refunds are calculated on a pro-rata basis and you will be refunded for the number of unused days remaining on your subscription from 30th June 2008.
    It will be possible to request a refund during August, and refunds will be processed prior to 15th September 2008.
  • How will refunds be received?
    Refunds will be processed automatically and applied to the credit/debit card that was used to purchase your Premium Content subscription. You will receive an email to the email address registered at the time you subscribed once the refund has been processed.
  • When will my refund be processed?
    It will be possible to request a refund during August. Refunds will be processed prior to 15th September 2008.
  • How will auto-renewing subscriptions be handled?
    If you have an auto-renewing subscription, your auto-renewal agreement will be cancelled before it is due to be charged. All agreements will be cancelled by 7th July. You will receive an email to the email address you registered when you subscribed once your agreement has been cancelled.
  • I am a subscriber to Premium Email. What will the removal of Premium Content mean for me?
    Your Premium Email subscription will not be affected. You will continue to have access to your mailbox with the same login details and your address will continue to be @ireland.com.
  • I am a subscriber to Premium Content and Premium Email. What will the removal of Premium Content mean for me?
    Your Premium Email subscription will not be affected. You will continue to have access to your mailbox with the same login details.
  • Will the article archive be free to access?
    The past 12 month's archive of articles will be free to view. Access to all other articles dating back to 1859 will be available with The Irish Times Archive subscription. Further information on The Irish Times Archive subscription will be available at:

  • I received Premium Content as a gift. Will I be entitled to a refund?
    It will be possible to request a pro-rata refund for your gift subscription by logging into 'my account' account' during August. Please note that the refund will be made to the purchaser's card. As an alternative to a refund, you will have automatic access to The Irish Times Archive and Crossword subscriptions for the remainder of your gift subscription term.
  • I subscribe to the News Digest / Breaking News Alert. Will I still receive the email into my inbox?
    Yes, your subscription to the News Digest/Breaking News Alert will not be affected and you will continue to receive the email into your inbox.

    All Irish Times news content that was available on ireland.com will be accessible at www.irishtimes.com from Monday 30th June.
  • I am a Premium Email subscriber. What will the move of web address mean for me?
    Your email address will not change from @ireland.com, and you can continue to log into your mailbox at the same web address: www.ireland.com/email/loginpage You can also link to your mailbox from irishtimes.com.
  • How will ireland.com change?
    ireland.com will bring together relevant content, local and international services using intuitive find and explore functionality across a number of channels. Further information on the new ireland.com website will be available at www.ireland.com from Monday, 30th June.   
  • Why is ireland.com moving to irishtimes.com?
    Following the successful integration of the print and online newsrooms, The Irish Times site will move from ireland.com to irishtimes.com. This initiative is part of a significant development and investment programme in both print and online to broaden appeal to new audiences and to be more accessible to all readers.

    In order to set your homepage as www.irishtimes.com please use the 'make this my homepage' link on the irishtimes.com homepage from Monday 30th June.
  • Will I be able to access the interactive crossword?
    The print version of the daily Crosaire and Simplex crosswords will be free to access at www.irishtimes.com/games/crosswords/

  • Will the website's design and layout change?
    The re-branding to irishtimes.com and the removal of Premium Content has provided an opportunity to refresh the design and layout of the website. New categorisations will be introduced, which will reflect the nature of the integrated newsroom, and are intended to display the variety, depth and relevance of our content.
  • How will the site navigation change?
    The new navigation will present a simple site structure, so that news and information will be divided into clear content areas. A primary horizontal navigation bar will contain links to the top-level sections of the site and will be available on every page.
  • What can I do if I cannot find an area of the site on the new design?
    There will be a new tool in the global navigation above the search box named "Site Index". When expanded, this tool will display a clear guide to the site structure.
  • Where will the breaking news section sit?
    Breaking news items will be displayed in the relevant news section.  Therefore, breaking business news will be found in the business section of the site.  The most recent news articles will be clearly signposted as "Latest News" around the site.
  • Where will I find weekly supplements?
    The regular weekly supplements will be accessible at www.irishtimes.com/supplements/ and a link to supplements will also be on the irishtimes.com homepage
  • Will the screen width of the page change?
    The new design will be optimised for a screen width of 1024, which is the setting of most modern monitors. This allows for the provision of more content and images on each page and assists in keeping the "look and feel" clear and uncluttered.
  • What will happen to my existing bookmarked pages?                        
    To save irishtimes.com as your homepage please click on the 'make this my homepage' link on www.irishtimes.com from Monday, 30th June. Your existing bookmarks to news pages will be redirected for several months to the new website addresses, however we recommend that, once you access the new website address, you save a new bookmark for specific pages that you wish to access in future.
