Roar: Nicole Kidman to star in television adaptation of Cecelia Ahern’s short stories

Female-driven anthology series to feature eight episodes based on Irish author’s book

Irish author Cecelia Ahern's collection of short stories, entitled Roar, is being adapted as a television series starring Nicole Kidman.

The female-driven anthology series will include eight, half-hour episodes based on Ahern's book of 30 short stories and will also feature Cynthia Erivo, Merritt Wever and Alison Brie, according to Deadline.

The Roar series will be produced by the creators of Emmy award-winning comedy-drama Glow, Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive, who have also written for Orange is the New Black, Nurse Jackie and Weeds.

Each of Roar's short stories marks an epiphany or moment of transformation for an unnamed woman, and the book is described as an exploration into the "sometimes comic, always moving look at the guilt, joys, humiliation and triumphs that define the modern woman's experience, including the private moments when she feels the need to roar".

The television series follows film adaptations of two of Ahern’s novels – PS I Love You and Where Rainbows End, which became Love, Rosie – and several other series, including the award-winning Samantha Who?

Ahern, whose books have sold more than 25 million copies, won an Irish Book Award in 2014 for her novel The Year I Met You.

Roar is being co-produced by Ahern's Greenlight Go Productions and Kidman's production company Blossom Films, in a deal with streaming service Apple TV+.
