Derry C 7 UCD 0:EAMON ZAYED not only netted his 100th League of Ireland goal at the Brandywell last night, he went on to make it 102 with a memorable hat-trick as Derry hammered hapless UCD.
With Derry 1-0 up at half-time thanks to a Gareth McGlynn strike, the floodgates opened in the second half as Derry atoned for Monday’s dismal defeat to Sligo at the Showgrounds.
After the break, Derry hit the students with two goals within the space of five minutes to basically end this game as contest. Zayed finally netted his 100th strike in the 51st minute when he met McGlynn’s superb cross from the right, to head past keeper Ger Barron.
And the excellent McGlynn netted his second and Derry’s third in the 56th minute when racing onto James McClean’s pass to give Barron no chance.
It got much worse for the students when McClean added a fourth goal in the 63rd minute, McGlynn again the provider.
UCD then had right winger, Dean Marshall, sent off following a challenge on Derry sub, David McDaid, inside the penalty area.
McDaid dusted himself down to make it 5-0 from the spot in the 79th minute. Zayed netted number six in the 82nd minute and two minutes later he secured the match ball by heading home to complete his fine hat -trick.
