ZALARA, a close up fourth to Marionette in a apprentice handicap at Gowran on Saturday, now meets the winner on 5lb superior terms in the Noel M Griffin Memorial at Tramore this evening and is fancied to come out on top on this occasion.
That Gowran victory was the first of Marionette's career and her trainer, Willie Mullins, felt that she was helped considerably by the soft ground. She is unlikely to encounter similar condition this evening which should be a considerable advantage to Zalara, both of whose victories came on fast ground last season.
Dillon's Taxi, another who was in action at Gowran, has also strong claims. He started favourite for a seven furlong handicap but could never trouble the front running Live Comment. Before that he had been a good fourth in a competitive Galway handicap and he could pose the main threat to Zalara.
Evriza failed by only a neck to race of the year and nob reverts to the Flat in the Seaside Maiden. She has been extremely consistent, but she may have to wait a while longer for that elusive first win for the older Majestic Paddy did well to run Tarakhel to a length in a two horse race at Sligo.
Fair Society won by a distance at Kilbeggan last week and should be worth supporting against The South Pole, successful at Wexford on Tuesday. Michael Hourigan and John Moloney, trainer and rider of Fair Society, must also have prospects of a double with Sligo third Paul in the T and C Peugeot INH Flat race, but preference is for Stan sway, runner up in all three starts this year.
Nobodys Son, out of contention when unseating his rider at Tipperary, had previously shown up well for a considerable way in the Galway Plate. The 10 year old is a hopeful choice in the John O'Brien Memorial Handicap Chase.
Perpetual Prospect ran ride into the straight after drifting out 3 to 1 in a Roscommon bumper, but still led until two and a half furlong" out.
