Youth no handicap

Golf is for all ages and so it proved at Dundalk golf club recently

Golf is for all ages and so it proved at Dundalk golf club recently. Last month, 79-year-old Hugh Dolan strolled to victory in Leslie Walker's professional prize. And last week it was the turn of junior member Aaron Grant to scoop the top prize in the singles event. Grant, a 14-year-old and playing off a handicap of seven, defied the strong winds and difficult greens to shoot level-par 72 - nett 65 - on one of the toughest days of the year. His handicap has now dropped to five - he started the year off 11.

Grant is one of a number of promising juniors at the Dundalk club where there are high hopes also for Peter Tuite, Seβn McGeady, Gerard Casey, Neil Mackell and Alan McDermott.
