Trainer Geoff Wragg belatedly broke the ice for the year when Cassandra Go powered home in the Listed EBF Lansdown Fillies' Stakes at Bath yesterday.

Michael Roberts always had the daughter of Indian Ridge up with the pace before seizing the initiative approaching the final furlong and lengthening nicely to account for Searaphina by a couple of lengths.

And though Roberts was unsure about any future plans for the filly, she seems sure to be aimed at some of the top sprints. The jockey said: "She's always been a good filly but she just went off the boil a bit last season.

"She's won very nicely there over five furlongs so I would think that or six furlongs will be her trip this season as she seems to have plenty of pace."

Richard Hannon's King O' The Mana swooped through to lead at the two furlong pole in the Tattenham Corner Classified Stakes before beating Riddlesdown by a length and a quarter and Richard Hughes.

Frankie Dettori was handed a two-day ban after his mount Bless The Bride took the concluding Levy Board Handicap.

The Italian was found guilty of careless riding by the stewards after he was adjudged to have caused interference to Kieren Fallon's partner Millions, who eventually finished fifth, in the closing stages of the race.

Dettori's ban takes effect on May 11th and 12th and means the jockey will have to sit out the last day of Chester's three-day meeting.

Kieren Fallon can illustrate the full range of his talents with victory on two very different horses at Ascot today.

The champion jockey is poised for a big-race double on the occasionally quirky stayer Royal Rebel and the speedy seven-furlong performer Caribbean Monarch.

Royal Rebel tends to take a lot of driving from the saddle and will tax his rider's fitness in the two-mile Bovis Homes Sagaro Stakes.

But the four-year-old is a potentially smart long-distance performer who should reward Fallon's efforts with a Group Three win.

Fallon will need to ride a waiting race on Caribbean Monarch, who looks the probable winner of the Sodexho Victoria Cup. This straight seven furlongs will be ideal for his mount, who ran his best race to date when fourth over the course in the Britannia Stakes at the Royal meeting here in 1998.

Training problems have prevented the five-year-old fulfilling the potential he showed that season. But he retains all his ability and shaped very well when a close fourth on his reappearance at Newmarket last month, staying on strongly from rear in a race that favoured those ridden near the front.
