US TOUR: World number one Tiger Woods's record run of 142 successive cuts came to an end last night when he missed the projected cut in the Byron Nelson Championship at Irving, Texas. The 29-year-old American followed his opening one-under 69 with a two-over 72 in the second round to finish one-over-par on 141.

Playing only his second event since winning his fourth US Masters last month, Woods struggled to shake off the rust. With four holes to play, he was one over for the tournament but a birdie four at the 16th gave him hope before he dropped a shot at the final hole.

Brett Wetterich and Sean O'Hair set the clubhouse target at nine-under-par 131. O'Hair added a second-round 65 to his opening 66 and was later joined at the top of the leaderboard by Wetterich, who fired a 67.

CHALLENGE TOUR: Michael Hoey and Justin Kehoe were the only surviving Irishmen at the halfway stage of the European Challenge Tour's XX Tessali-Metaponto Open di Puglia e Basilicata.

Both players completed their second rounds at Riva dei Tessali, with Hoey posting a level-par 71 to move to two under par, while Kehoe carded a second-round 70 to join Hoey in a tie for 53rd place.

Two under was the final cut mark, with Colm Moriarty (one under par), Noel Fox (one over) and Tim Rice (two over) forced to make the early trip home.

There is a three-way tie at the top between the Swedes Johan Edfors and Steven Jeppesen and South Africa's Michael Kirk, all at 10-under-par 133.

LET TOUR: Ireland's Rebecca Coakley and Hazel Kavanagh lost ground yesterday as Denmark's Iben Tinning carded a career-best nine-under-par 63 to break the course record and take the outright lead after the second round of the € 275,000 Spanish Open at Panorámica Golf and Country Club.

Tinning fired a round of nine birdies to smash her previous best of 66 on the LET. Tinning on 11-under-par 133 leads by two from Italy's Sophie Sandolo.

Coakley carded a 73 for a 142 total while Kavanagh is a shot back on 143 after a 74.
