Galway's three-day September fixture gets under way this afternoon with a £30,000 jackpot carryover to spice up for punters what looks a trappy enough card.

There will be no more trappy contest than the Hogan Motors Handicap but the punters could have an edge on their side here in the shape of the 10lb claimer Mary Williamson.

She partners the John Oxx-trained Adari who gave the jockey her first ever winner at Tralee 12 days ago. Originally from the West Cork village of Leap, Williamson rode for Con Collins before enjoying a six-month spell riding work in Florida and New York last winter.

The benefits of that were clear at Tralee as Williamson looked a polished performer in getting Adari home six lengths clear of Class Society.

The jackpot seekers will be looking for a banker and the nearest to that could be McCracken in the apprentice maiden.

Noel Meade's flat string have hit something of a flat patch but McCracken ran well at Fairyhouse when only beaten a head by Marching Orders and should appreciate the half furlong drop in trip.

McCracken hit the front a furlong and a half out at Fairyhouse only to be just overhauled but there doesn't appear to be anything likely to do the same today.

The opening chase could go to Mick Mackie who ran a good third to Fernhillbogey at Killarney before disappointing behind Glacial Waters here at the festival. Bronica was second on that occasion but may not be the safest jumper and Mick Mackie could be the value to bounce back to form.

Tricias Pride is difficult to oppose in the maiden hurdle while Willyever could be the value in the Great Southern Handicap with the step up to a mile after two recent abortive attempts at seven furlongs. Granted a clear run, he should go close.
