Williams have enlisted the aid of ultimate driving machine manufacturers BMW to further their cause but so far the FW22 has been far from ultimate. With the tank-like BMW powerplant weighing in at 120Kg, the Williams has been slower than a wet Wednesday in the midlands. Ralf Schumacher worked miracles with last year's FW21, but if he manages to put Williams back into the top flight this year then a higher power might just get a tad jealous.

When Williams opted to tread water in 1999 in anticipation of BMW power, Ralf Schumacher must have been out of the room. Ignoring the FW21's lack of power and finesse, Schumacher blasted the unlovely beast to some outstanding results last season and was, in my opinion, the only serious rival to Heinz-Harald Frentzen for driver of the year. Whether Schumacher junior can work similar miracles with the FW22 remains to be seen.

A joker in the pack or just a joker? It's hard to say really. Button, who won the British Formula Ford Championship and the Formula Ford Festival at his first attempts in 1998, could turn out to be the sensation of 2000 or another Esteban Tuero - a youngster of precocious talent who simply made the jump up to the big leagues a couple of years too early.
