WEXFORD senior hurling selector Seamus Barron has relinquished his position, just 24 hours after Liam Griffin stepped down as manager.

Barron, who underwent a heart operation earlier this year, has given the lack of time as the major contributory factor in his decision to stand down.

Rory Kinsella, the sole surviving member of the management team, is the clear favourite for the managerial post having received the full backing of Griffin and the players.

The Wexford County Board will meet on Monday night when a firm decision will be taken on what procedure they should adopt in choosing a successor.

Meanwhile, when Antrim's footballers take on Fermanagh in the quarter final of the All Ireland B football championship in Casement Park on Saturday the chances are that thoughts of their clash with Armagh in the previous round will not have left their minds.

In a game that saw Antrim's main attacking threat Jimmy Wilson sent to the line promising Armagh defender Andrew McCann sustained a broken jaw in three places.

An Armagh official has insisted that "the full letter of the law should be used against any proven offender". The GAC are expected to act on the referee's report next week; McCann's jaw has since been wired and he has been unable to speak clearly or to eat solids.

Steve McCann will miss the first part of Armagh's National League Division Three programme as a result and is not expected to return to action until the resumption of the League in February.
