CRICKET: KYLE McCALLAN'S parade as Irish cricket's first double centurion cap-holder was well and truly rained on yesterday, after only eight overs were played in the second match of the Carnegie Cup between Ireland and Kenya at Stormont.
The Waringstown player did receive his 200th cap from Cricket Ireland president John Caldwell, before play began 75 minutes late.
Former New Zealand Under-19 international Regan West received a late call-up from the Ireland A squad to replace Andre White, who broke a finger in the opening victory on Tuesday, while the other change saw Paul Stirling take over from Niall O'Brien, who returned to Northamptonshire.
Ireland got off to a poor start with openers William Porterfield and Gary Wilson gone by the third over, but the rain returned after just half an hour with Ireland having moved on to 18 without further loss.
The game was finally abandoned after an inspection at 4pm, with the umpires concerned about the bowlers' run-up at one end. The third and final match in the series takes place at Stormont tomorrow, with a 10.45am start.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Leinster spinner George Dockrell has been called up to take West's place in the Ireland A squad for their European Championship campaign, which starts against the Netherlands in Amsterdam today.
