Everything points to three Ulster colleges - UUC, UUJ and Queen's - making it through to the semi-finals of the Collingwood Cup in Limerick. After two series of games, they are likely to be joined by NUIG. Holders St Mary's have to beat UUJ if they are to entertain any chance of filling one of the four semi-final berths.

UUC - 4, Magee Coll - 0

Having dispensed with Trinity 3-0 in their opening game, UUC went one better when hammering four past Magee goalkeeper Philip Richards. Gavin Doherty, John Donaghy, Michael Connolly and Gavin Ritchie were the scorers.

UUJ - 1, UCC - 0

This was another fine performance from UUJ, whose 15th-minute strike from Gareth Gibson saw them end the hopes of UCC in what was often a hot-tempered game.

DIT - 5, St Patrick's - 2

DIT were on level terms at the interval with Brian Rickard on target for them and Damien Ward levelling from the penalty spot. Goals from David Delahunty, Cormac O'Leary, Steve Owen and Trevor Hennessy made it 5-1 before Brian Halpin earned St Patrick's a consolation second goal.

NUIG - 1, UL - 0

Host club UL surrendered their interest in the competition when going under to a 73rd-minute goal from Alan O'Donnell. To add to their problems, they had a player sent off.

Dublin Univ - 3, RCSI - 0

Dublin University had their first win, but they may have left it too late to progress. Niall Cross put them in front in after 10 minutes, Stephen added a second and Niall O'Connor chipped in with their third.

UCD - 2, St Mary's - 2

Holders St Mary's looked on their way to the semi-finals when they went two up against UCD. Neil Watson was on the mark from the penalty spot after Steve Donaghy had been taken down and an own goal from Niall O'Mahony increased UCD's woes. Richie Barry and Keith Fitzgerald earned UCD a share of the spoils, however.

Queen's - 1, DCU - 0

The all-important goal from Mark Stirling came in 22 minutes after good work by Garett Fulton.
