Sunday's Well kissed their hopes of promotion from Division Two of the AIL goodbye when UCC snatched victory at the Mardyke last night.
Sunday's Well had their chances and led for a considerable amount of time, but blew it in the last quarter. Having held a 13-9 lead, the 'Well relinquished it at the midway point of the second half and then conceded another late try which killed off their hopes. The fact that they came back and scored the last try of the game meant little because they left it much too late.
The 'Well went ahead with a try by David Jones and after Brian O'Mahony replied with three penalties, Jones got his second try and then Ian Calder kicked a penalty. UCC edged back again with a penalty from O'Mahony, who also converted a try from Tim Cahill. Paul Barry's try was, however, the crucial score and while Stephen Keane hit back for a try which Calder converted, Sunday's Well had left themselves with too much to do.
