From Grange in Co Sligo, McSharry showed great underage promise as 2017 European junior champion in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke, and also 2017 World junior champion in the 100m Breaststroke. She also took gold at the 2018 World Schools Games in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke. Her 2021 form at the University Of Tennessee was the hint of her Olympic qualification which was sealed at the Swim Ireland Performance Meet in April. She is coached by Matt Kredich.
