Two goals scored in rapid succession by substitutes David Donoghue and Ollie Deeley sent Tipperary reeling in the final four minutes of this All-Ireland minor hurling semi-final at Croke Park - and may yet lead to a big family occasion for GAA president Joe McDonagh after next month's final.

McDonagh could be celebrating his first year in office by handing over the Irish Press Cup to his son, Eoin, who is captain of the Galway team.

Tipperary held an eight-point advantage on more than one occasion in the match and the two-goal blast by Galway came when Tipperary were leading by seven points in the 26th minute of the second half.

Donoghue struck first when he was left unmarked inside the Tipperary defence. Before the ball was sent through to Donoghue a Galway attacker appeared to lift the ball straight off the ground.

Deeley kicked the second to the net when the Tipperary team were still thinking that they could rest on their oars and wait for the final whistle. A huge point by midfielder Niall Lawlor equalised, and a winning point from a 90-yard free by the strong and accurate Galway centre back Stephen Morgan polished off the disenchanted Tipperary boys, who lost concentration badly in those closing minutes.

The champions had one final chance to salvage a draw - with, effectively, the last puck of the game - but Paddy O'Brien, a confident freetaker earlier on, was off the mark with an acutelyangled free from the sideline.

McDonagh added to Tipperary's woes by making that timely interception just on the final whistle.
