Tipperary are the last ever All-Ireland under-21 winning team after a late goal from substitute Conor Stakelum seen them edge Cork at the Gaelic Grounds. The Rebels had clawed back a three-point deficit with four successive scores to lead by a single point heading into additional time. Simon Zebo and Paul O'Connell both enjoyed big away wins in their first competitive games in France this weekend. In the opening round of the Top 14 O'Connell's (forwards coach) Stade Francais team were emphatic 46-15 winners away to Paddy Jackson's Perpignan. Zebo and his former Munster and Ireland team-mate Donnacha Ryan helped Racing 92 to a 25-9 win away to Toulon.

Pádraig Harrington had the Czech Masters snatched from under his nose in Prague, as Italy's Andrea Pavan came home in five-under 31 to beat him by two shots. Harringon had raced to the turn in three-under 33 to lead by three strokes, but the Italian streaked past him coming home, rattling in five birdies.

Niamh McCarthy wrapped the last day of the European Para-Athletics Championships in Berlin by winning gold in the women's F41 discus, twice improving the European Championship record in the process. That was Ireland's ninth medal, and sixth gold, and as Ian O'Riordan reports, "by any standards a remarkable measure of success for the Irish team."

Jenny Egan took a bronze medal for Ireland in the K1 5,000 metres at the canoe sprint World Championships in Portugal. It was the first medal at this World Championships for the Ireland paddler.
