Division One Group One: Tipperary - 3-15 Galway 2-18 A sensational goal from David Tierney six minutes into added time earned Galway a division of the spoils following their dramatic comeback against table toppers Tipperary in this crucial Division One B clash at Semple Stadium in Thurles yesterday.

In a game which marked the introduction as a substitute for Tipperary of former Kilkenny captain Denis Byrne, Tipp suffered a huge shock after they appeared set to canter to victory in the opening stages.

In what was for the most part a lacklustre encounter, Tipperary, with Paul Kelly replacing the injured Noel Morris at midfield, blazed a trail in the first period and built up a 3-3 to 0-2 lead after just 17 minutes.

Their first goal came after nine minutes when Conor Gleeson whipped a ground ball to the net, and it was followed in the 16th and 17th minutes by similar scores from Lar Corbett and Ger O'Grady.

Tipperary continued to dominate the first period despite the setback of an Ollie Fahy goal in 26th minute and led at the interval by 3-7 to 1-6.

While they continued to hold the upper hand in the early stages of the second-half they amassed a series of bad wides and Galway hit a purple patch shooting seven points to only one in reply in a 13 minute period to leave just a single score in the difference after 65 minutes.

The home team looked set to survive the onslaught when they rallied to move three points ahead again, inspired by John Leahy's introduction in the closing stages.

However with the game six minutes into added time, Tierney pounced to save the day, and in the process making a Tipp win over Clare next Sunday a must in order to strengthen the Premier County's chances of making the league final.

Eamonn Corcoran, one of Tipp's best players, was sent-off for a red card offence in the dying minutes.

Apart from Corcoran, Martin Maher, Philip Maher in the closing stages, Thomas Dunne, Paul Kelly, Conor Gleeson, Liam Cahill and Eoin Kelly stood out for Tipp while Galway had sturdy performers in Ollie Canning, Declan O'Brien, Brian Mahony, Richie Murray, David Tierney, Ollie Fahy and David Forde.
