Tierney and King the difference

Cavan 2-8 Derry 1-9CAVAN BOOKED a spot in the final with an excellent second-half display. Kevin Tierney at full forward and second half substitute Paddy King at midfield were the difference between the sides with Tierney hitting 1-05 over the course of the hour.

His five points all came after the break with four coming from play and the Derry defence could not handle his craft. King, meanwhile, got his fist to a dropping Jack Brady free for the all important goal with 12 minutes to go and also won a lot of possession around the middle.

Emmett Bradley was in fine scoring form for Derry with three points, all in the second half but in the end they could not claw back King’s goal. Cavan had started in great fashion hitting 1-2 within the first 15 minutes. Kevin Tierney rattling the net after finding himself all alone in behind the Derry defence while the hard working Joe Dillon clipped over a point with corner back Jason McLoughlin striding forward to kick a point from distance.
