Teapot Row ended a losing sequence stretching back 22 months when outrunning seven rivals in the Wates Construction Conditions Stakes at Newbury yesterday.
It was back in September 1997 that the James Toller-trained son of Generous last saw the inside of a winner's circle, having won the Group One Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot.
His eight subsequent outings proved fruitless, but the bay returned to form in no uncertain manner with his defeat of Caballero for the £9,020 prize.
Two furlongs out, Jimmy Fortune was still towards the rear of the field but once he unleashed his partner a furlong out, Teapot Row quickened past Caballero for a two-length victory.
It will be something of a surprise if the connections of Elaflaak have to wait the best part of two years for their filly to win again, judged on her success in the opening European Breeders Fund Ecchinswell Novice Stakes.
Richard Hills took the bay daughter of Gulch into the lead two furlongs out and the evens favourite had three-quarters of a length to spare over Starlyte Girl at the line.
Richard Quinn, who rode a double at the meeting here last Sunday, repeated the feat aboard Fnan and last race Dilkusha.
Fnan got the better of a fight with top-weight Legal Lunch for the Wellington Handicap.
