There's good reason for not driving into Dublin city centre tomorrow - 34,000 women

There's good reason for not driving into Dublin city centre tomorrow - 34,000 women. Since it began in 1983 with 9,000 runners, the women's mini marathon has snowballed and collected nearly £35 milion for various charities along the way. Dundrum South Dublin AC, the organisers of the event, will need 2,000 stewards on the day to man the route.

The biggest all-women's event in the world will use up 30 miles of commemorative ribbon and has the highest finishing ratio of any similar event with less than one per cent failing to cross the line. That statistic takes us nicely to Ann Fleming who finished the 10 kilometres in one hour 50 minutes in 1992. Ann was 86 at the time.
