A manager rang our helpline last week enquiring about the remaining tournaments in our 2001 Golf Masters' schedule. Then another manager rang enquiring about the same, and then another, and another . . .
Of course there's nothing our affable, jovial helpline person loves more than listing out 20 tournaments, dates, courses, likely weather conditions, local food specialities, defending champions and Tiger Woods' plans for the rest of the season ("Will he be playing the Buick Open? If he is I'll get rid of Phil Mickelson and transfer Tiger in - but if he's not and Mickelson turns up I'll be ruined").
But we've decided to put an end to his fun by publishing the schedule below. Take special note of the three remaining Majors (starting with this week's US Open) and the two bonus tournaments - if you've plenty of ground to make up those are likely to be the occasions when you'll do it.
Remember, too, if there is an Irish winner in either of the two home-based tournaments - the Irish Open in week 18 and the European Open the week after - he will receive a Golf Masters' cheque for £400,000. So, if you reckon Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington or Paul McGinley, for example, are in good shape going in those tournaments you might consider transferring them in to your line-ups. The decision is yours.
