News: Cheyenne Star got up in the shadow of the post to win a thrilling race for the Castlemartin Stud EBF Garnet Stakes at Naas yesterday.

The top-weight weaved her way through the field in the final furlong to nail Thoughtless Moment in the dying strides.

Cheyenne Star (4 to 1 favourite), trained by Frances Crowley and ridden by Séamus Heffernan, won the Listed prize by a neck. Baby Blue Eyes was third, with Dimenticata a close fourth in a bunch finish.

British raider In Safe Hands, from Clive Cox's stable, was always prominent and led a furlong out but was run out of it in the last 100 yards.

Crowley said: "We had great plans for her to run in the Matron Stakes, but she had a problem and couldn't run.

"There's a Listed race over a mile at Dundalk we might go for. I'm also going to have a chat with the owners about the possibility of taking her to Dubai."

The race was something of a family affair, with the Dermot Weld-trained runner-up being ridden by Crowley's husband, Pat Smullen.

Local trainer Michael Hourigan recorded a first success in the Ladbrokes.com National Handicap Chase at Limerick as Mossbank ran out a convincing winner of the €120,000 feature.

The 8 to 1 shot gave his supporters a scare when he reached for the second-last fence having just taken the lead, but Andrew McNamara kept the partnership intact.

Mossbank travelled strongly turning for home and took over from the pacemaking Ballyagran before comfortably holding Whataboutya by two and a half lengths. Darby Wall was third and Ponmeoath fourth.

Hourigan said: "I've always thought highly of this horse and now he's fulfilled some of that. He's been working like a real horse at home and work rider Kevin Power said to me on Friday that the horse was on fire."

Hourigan now has one eye on the Irish Grand National in the spring.

McNamara completed a 53 to 1 double when getting home Edward O'Grady's Bernabeu (5 to 1) by a short head from Florrie's Boy in the beginners chase.

Meanwhile, Cork All Star was made 10 to 1 favourite by William Hill for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham after a facile success on his hurdling bow at Fairyhouse on Saturday.
