Giants are on fire, but their wide receiver misfires

AMERICAN FOOTBALL:The New York Giants improved their record to 11-1 for the first time in franchise history by beating Washington 23-7 at the weekend, while the New York Jets had a five-game winning streak snapped with a 34-17 loss to Denver.

With the road win, the Giants maintained a three-game lead over the Dallas Cowboys (8-4) in the NFC's East Division.

Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was ruled out of the game with a hamstring injury two days ago, before accidentally shooting himself in the same right leg at a Manhattan nightclub.

He denied criminal possession of a weapon when charged by New York police yesterday.

Hamilton expects open 2009 season

MOTOR RACING: New regulations will leave next year's Formula One title battle wide open, according to McLaren's world champion Lewis Hamilton.

"I've already had a close look at the new car and the engineers have explained the philosophy behind it and just how different things will be next year, the 23-year-old Briton said yesterday.

I've been watching testing with a lot of interest, I think the new cars will make next year's championship wide open and I'm really looking forward to tackling the new regulations.

The 2009 cars have major aerodynamic changes and will also be using slick tyres instead of the grooved ones of recent years.

The season will also see the introduction of Kers systems designed to convert the heat energy generated by the cars' brakes into short bursts of additional power.

England may still play Tests in India

CRICKET: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will send a security consultant to India before deciding whether to take part in this month's two-Test series.

"The ECB will be sending their security consultant for discussions with the authorities in India before final clearance is given for the tour," the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement.

"ECB has informed BCCI that England are agreeable to tour India and play two Tests, the first at Chennai from December 11th to 15th and the second at Mohali from December 19th to 23th. The three-day tour match has been cancelled."

England returned home last week after 10 Islamist gunmen killed 183 people in Mumbai. The last two games in a seven-match one-day series were called off.

The BCCI switched the games from Mumbai, the original second Test venue, and Ahmedabad, the first Test venue.
