The Noel Meade-trained Hill Society has been installed favourite by the sponsors for the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot next month.

The gelding, beaten a short head by Champleve in the Arkle Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival in March, is a 7 to 1 chance with last year's winner Jeffell, also trained in Ireland, and the rising stars Lake Kariba and Edredon Bleu next on 8 to 1.

Both Lake Kariba and Edredon Bleu have been set to shoulder 11st 10lb in the two-mile handicap run on January 16th, for which 21 entries have been made.

Arthur Moore, responsible for Jeffell, has also entered former top two-miler Klairon Davis and Manhattan Castle in the £45,000 event.
