Spencer faces a long suspension

Jamie Spencer faces a lengthy suspension after being referred to the Jockey Club by stewards at Lingfield yesterday.

The young Tipperaryman, who completed a century of winners for the year earlier this month, was found guilty of irresponsible riding of a minor nature when riding Tarboush, who finished second to Reef Diver in the attheraces.co.uk Conditions Stakes.

But having already accumulated a total of 18 days' worth of suspensions over the past 12 months, the matter was referred to the Jockey Club's Disciplinary Committee.

Other jockeys who have been referred to Portman Square under the "totting-up" procedure in the past have tended to be hit by bans of at least a fortnight and Spencer can expect a similar punishment if found guilty.
