Irish track star, Sonia O'Sullivan, plans a new approach in a bid to regain her winning touch. In Edinburgh on Saturday, O'Sullivan "got rid of the cobwebs" with victory in the Commonwealth Festival City Centre 5,000 metre road race on Prince's Street.
Her final 400m push took her past Germany's Rina Mikitenko and away from old rival, Yvonne Murray, to win by ten metres in 15 mins 56.6 seconds.
"It's a great start to my preparations for next year," she said, revealing that as well as mounting a bid for the European title, she will again run the IAAF circuit.
But she says she will pick and choose her races in a reduced schedule.
"Maybe this year I didn't plan properly," she said. "Maybe that's what went wrong. I can still run faster than I've done before. I've not run my best yet."
