Fenerbahçe confirm signing of Nani from Manchester United

Portugese winger joins Istanbul side on a three-year deal for a fee of €6 million

Fenerbahce have confirmed the signing of Nani from Manchester United, with the 28-year-old joining the Turkish club on a three-year contract for a fee of €6 million.

The Portuguese leaves Old Trafford after eight years at the club, spending last season on loan at Sporting Lisbon, the club where he started his career. During his time in England, he won the Premier League four times, the League Cup in 2009, as well as helping United to the Champions League and the World Club Cup title in 2008.

Nani’s deal at United was due to run through to 2018, but with the winger finding first-team opportunities hard to come by – compounded by this summer’s £25m arrival of Memphis Depay from PSV – he has opted to join Fenerbahce, who finished second to Galatasaray in the Super Lig last season.

Another United player, Robin van Persie, is also edging closer to a move to Fenerbahce after reaching an agreement in principle with the Turkish side. The two clubs are currently negotiating a fee for the 31-year-old, who has agreed personal terms with the club and is ready to sign a four-year deal.

Nani scored 11 times for Sporting in all competitions last season and would become the third Portuguese international at Fenerbahce after the former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles and the experienced centre-back Bruno Alves.

In an already busy summer, the club have signed centre-back Kjaer from Lille on a £6.73m deal as well as the Turkish international full-back Sener Ozbayrakli and last season's Super Lig top scorer Fernandão, who scored 22 goals last season on loan at Bursaspor from the Brazilian side Atlético Paranaense.
