Smooth win for Serene Swing

CHRISTY ROCHE and Charles O'Brien combined to record a 14 to 1 double at Navan on Saturday. The brace was initiated in the EBF Fillies Maiden when Serene Swing, a daughter of Seattle Dancer, made all under the veteran rider to justify favouritism by three lengths.

"She's a bit highly strung and as a result she works on her own at home, so making the running probably suited her today," said O'Brien who went on to record his sixth winner of the season with Rupestrian in the Drumree Handicap.

Carrying the colours of his wife, Dr Anne Heffernan, the Reference Point gelding defied a 5lb penalty for his recent Killarney success, when staying on gallantly inside the final furlong to score by one and a half lengths.

1989 Galway Plate Hero Bold Flyer, now a 13-year-old, landed the Garlow Cross Handicap chase on his first outing since winning the same race last year. Afterwards winning trainer Anne Collen revealed: "Bold Flyer got a blood infection after winning here last year.

Ruby Walsh, who celebrated his 17th birthday last week, notched his seventh victory when partnering the Tom Taaffe-trained Dromineer to trounce the opposition in the bumper.
