Ruby Walsh extended his lead to four over great rival Paul Carberry in the title race when partnering Ajar to a surprise win in the Shurnagower Hurdle at Tramore yesterday.

The Jimmy Mangan-trained gelding quickly drew clear when meeting the uphill run to the second last. Walsh, now on the 60 winner mark, kept the nine-year-old up to his work in the testing conditions to beat Cnocan Glas by five lengths.

Eric McNamara, trainer of Cnocan Glas, went one better later on when Kaselectric took the Kilmacthomas Handicap Chase in fine style. Lord Dal opened his account over fences when taking the featured William Crotty EBF Beginners Chase. The French-bred gelding was patiently ridden by Conor O'Dwyer to lead at the last to beat Lady Moskva easily.
