UCD striker Jason Sherlock earned a Dublin City selection a draw with English Premiership side Middlesbrough at rain drenched Tolka Park last night. The challenge match was part of the Luke Kelly Festival of football, set up two years ago by Home Farm and St Kevin's Boys.
Already without two of their big foreign stars, Ravanelli and Emerson, Middlesbrough further disappointed an attendance of some 1,200 when their Brazilian star Juninho pulled out with a late injury.
Their Scandinavian strike force of Jan Age Fjortoft and Mikkel Beck did play, but were frustrated throughout the first half by UCD goalkeeper Seamus Kelly who made at least five excellent saves.
Beck finally broke the deadlock in the 60th minute when heading home off a post from Chris Morris's cross.
Ten minutes from time, the home side drew level. Jason Colwell made a surging run into the box to shoot, Middlesbrough goalkeeper, Gary Walsh, could only parry and Sherlock slid in to knock the ball over the line.
